Noise at an address (geluid)

Traffic noise affects sleep and health. RIVM calculates the yearly average noise level (Lden) from roads, railways and aircraft for every location in the Netherlands.

How it works

  • Levels are calculated, not measured, and shown in RIVM's classes; 45 dB or less is the lowest class.
  • The World Health Organization's 2018 guideline values (road 53 dB, rail 54 dB, air 45 dB) are shown as a reference, not as a legal limit.
  • Visit at rush hour and check which rooms face the noise source.
